1. Pick a good location for your garden
You want to be sure that you are planting your garden in the ideal location where it gets the right amount of sun. So before you even begin planting any seeds, you need to check where the sun hits your lawn, and how many hours of sun the lawn is getting. You don't want to start a garden where there is too much sun!
2. Learn a little bit about soil
and your region. It's important when beginning your garden to have soil that has good drainage, and will allow your plants to grow and thrive. Learn about the soil in your area, and see what the best plants to grow are. Some areas could limit the types of plants you are able to grow so you need to do some research about your area!
3. Testing the soil
After doing some research about your region and the soil, you should test your soil. Testing the soil will tell you how acidic or alkaline your soil is, as well as the pH levels, which affects how your plants absorb their nutrients. You can purchase at-home testing kits from Home Depot, Lowes, or any gardening store.
As easy as it is to just place your seeds in the ground and start watering, you still need to do some research about how to space out your plants and where you should plant them. You don't want to have plants overcrowding each other, so be sure that you research how large your planned plants grow, and that you space them out accordingly. Be sure to plan when you'll be adding fertilizer and extra nutrients to help your plants grow and thrive!
